River Trails Middle School
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
River Trails Middle School is a sixth through eighth grade middle school located in the Chicago suburb of Mount Prospect, Illinois. It is part of the small School District 26. Most of the amazing students spend grades K-5 in the other two schools in the district, Indian Grove School and Euclid School. The majority of River Trails students go on to attend John Hersey High School, but a few attend Maine West High School, (those who live in the Des Plaines subdivisions known as Craig Manor, Kylemore Greens, and Longford Glen) or Prospect High School .
The school has brought back its foreign language programs and has switched to a 10-period daily schedule. Instead of Student Council, the school has "Student Government". RTMS is known for its music program. There is a concert band, an orchestra, a bucket band, a steel drum band, and chorus/roc n' boc. Bucket band is a music group many students try out for, you drum on a bucket to certain songs. Roc n' boc is the same as chorus, but is for kids in band and orchestra because chorus usually meets when band/orchestra does. The steel drum band bucket band, and chorus has been on Oprah because of their teacher who was honored as one of the best teachers. All in all, River Trails is an enjoyable school...

[edit] History
The school, formerly known as River Trails Junior High , consisted of 7th & 8th grades and operated on a nine period schedule. Student activities included competitive sports, cheerleading (later poms), student council, choir, and FAP (Fine Art Productions). The student council hosted two school dances annually (a costumed Halloween dance & a spring dance). FAP produced three main theatre productions: a variety styled showcase, a melodrama, and a marionette puppet show, which would go 'on tour' to the district's elementary schools. Performances by the 7th & 8th grade choirs, the band, and exhibits from the art classes were showcased in the Randhurst shopping mall as well as within the school.
