River Derwent

River Derwent is the name of several rivers in England:

The name "Derwent" means "a valley thick with oaks"[citation needed] (compare Modern Welsh derwen = oak). The Romans had a number of forts called Derventio. The Derwent Reservoir is located at the Derwent Valley, downstream of the Howden Reservoir. The river flows on through Derby.
