River 94.9 (call sign: 4MIX) is a commercial radio station based in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. The station is owned by grant broadcasters pty ltd as of 29 may 2008 after being sold off by fairfax due to the 2 licence rule of the acma. the station, which broadcasts to South-East Queensland on 50 kW, opened in December 2001 in the old studios of Star 106.9, Their playlist originally included pop music, rock and dance with specialty programming including 'Wild Nights', licenced from Wild FM. In late 2003, after some small changes in administration, most specialty programmes disappeared. Still claiming to be 'the hit music station', they began playing less pop music and more hit music from the 1980s and early 1990s. They now position themselves in the competitive market as playing "The Biggest Variety of Hits from the 70's, 80's, 90's and whatever" with a no repeat workday.
The station was previously owned by Rural Press & Bundaberg Broadcasters, forming part of the Star Broadcasting Network.
As of 2008, the shifts included Waynee "Poo" Roberts (former 4IP DJ) Moffie and Theia(breakfast), Annie replaces Ashleigh Mac for the day shift(morning) and Jay Goldman (drive). River949 is the first station in Australia to have "now playing" in the PS of their RDS (radio data system).
In 2007 River 94.9 was the only radio station in the greater Brisbane area to be using dynamic RDS (Radio Data System). Dynamic data displayed includes station ID and slogan and title and artist of currently playing song. During news bulletins and advertisements etc. the system also displays current temperatures from regional centres and the current daily water reserve update (as a percentage of total regional dam capacity ie. 18.23%).
