[edit] American Robin Photos
Hey, I saw that your American Robin photos were removed from the Wikipedia article, and I kind of expected that they would be. Image galleries are discouraged on bird articles, and that one already has a lot of high-quality photos integrated into the body of the article anyway. I just wanted to suggest that if you'll upload your photos to Wikimedia Commons instead, and add them to the American Robin category, they'll be seen by anyone who clicks the Commons link at the bottom right corner of the main article page here at Wikipedia. - Ken Thomas (talk) 16:42, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, you did the talk thing right - and don't worry about it. It took me forever to figure out how that worked as well. ;-) In a nutshell, Commons is a big media repository that allows your images to be easily used in all the different Wiki sister projects. To upload your pictures, just go to Commons, create an account (it's a different project from Wikipedia, so it requires a seperate login) and then follow the Upload instructions to get started adding and categorizing your images. Let me know if you get stuck anywhere. It's kind of confusing until you get your first two or three images uploaded, then it's a piece of cake. - Ken Thomas (talk) 16:40, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
- The categories you add an to image when you upload it (or add later, for that matter) will vary a lot depending on the image. If you scroll down to the bottom of the American Robin photo I uploaded you'll see I categorize them by the type of bird and the camera I used to take the photo. Some people add a third category for where the picture was taken. I generally just surf around on Commons a little bit and find all the categories that fit for the image I'm about to upload. It can be quite a few categories sometimes - just whatever you think fits. For example, I uploaded this image and put it in five different categories. The only time you would need to create your own category would be if there was no existing category that fit the image. - Ken Thomas (talk) 18:41, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
