[edit] New Category - Kite Surfing

I was wondering if I should create a new category for kitesurfers. There is already a Category:Wikipedian_surfers category and I have looked in the directory and there does not seem to be one for kitesurfers. - Richard Thompson 12:16, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Richard, there is Category:Kitesurfers with two sub categories. I haven't come across a category for Wikipedian_kitesurfers. This would normally be associated with a userbox I think. Regards, Peter Campbell 12:58, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

As a WP:UCfD participant, I'd suggest the name Category:Wikipedians interested in kites. Xiner (talk, email) 13:28, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the suggestion, but do you not feel the category may be to open/general? There are lots of kiting activities - kite fly, kitesurfing, snowkiting, kite photography. It would be like grouping 'surfers' under a category of 'wikipedians interested in watersports', which would include everything from diving to canoeing. Don't mean to question the more advanced users, and sorry if caused offence. Richard Thompson 13:37, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
I have just created the Category:Wikipedian kitesurfers for Wikipedians to add to their userpages. You can use by adding [[Category:Wikipedian kitesurfers|{{PAGENAME}}]] to the bottom of your user page, or add {{User:Peter_Campbell/Userboxes/Kitesurfer}} to your user page to display the userbox and add the category. --Peter Campbell 13:53, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

Sorry this may seem a really lame question, but what is the correct way to remove vandalism and comment on users talk pages that have left vandalism? Are there any templates/tools to use? Richard Thompson (Talk! | Contribs) 10:08, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

To do it by hand: see Help:Reverting for the full story, but one common way to remove vandalism is to go to the history of the page, click on the date of the most recent unvandalised version, click 'edit this page', fill in an edit summary and save. (If you're looking at a diff at the time, clicking on 'undo' near the top-right of the diff is usually faster, and has the same effect.) As for warning users, there are whole swathes of templates available; there is some disagreement at the moment over whether {{subst:test1}}, {{subst:test2}}, {{subst:test3}}, {{subst:test4}} or {{subst:uw-t1}}, {{subst:uw-t2}}, {{subst:uw-v3}}, {{subst:uw-v4}} are better for warning vandals (either is fine). For very obvious vandalism and for other types of vandalism, there are other templates available; here and here are the grids for the uw-type warnings and old-type warnings. There are also several tools available for vandalism reversion; WikiProject User Scripts has some, and there are other tools available as well (if you look at Recent Changes for a while, you'll find many are advertised in the edit summaries they create): WP:POPUPS, WP:TWINKLE, and WP:VPRF are three that I can think of straight away.
