[edit] BACKGROUND

Bulldog Ice Hockey was formed on the campus of California State University Fresno in 1991. We are a club team that competes on the National Collegiate Level as a member of the Pacific Collegiate Hockey Association (PCHA) as well as the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).

The PCHA is divided into two divisions that include teams from throughout California and Arizona. Fresno State is joined by College of the Canyons, Sacramento State, UC Davis, and newcomers Santa Clara and San Jose State in the Northern Division. The Southern Division is made up of Northern Arizona, Northridge State, San Diego State, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, and newcomers University of Redlands. Teams will face each other twice in their own division as well as two teams from the opposing division. The top six teams will compete in the PCHA Tournament in Bakersfield, CA at the end of February.

The ACHA is a nationally recognized league that gives our team a chance to compete against other universities from around the country for a National Championship. We currently battle other members of the Pacific Conference for a spot at the ACHA Division III National Championship tournament held every year in March. The top two teams from the PCHA will automatically receive a bid to the national tournament. The remaining teams must battle for the top two spots at the ACHA Pacific tournament to be invited to Nationals.

The Bulldogs have been a member of the PCHA since 1991 and the ACHA since 2002. We our proud to have been crowned the 2002-2003 PCHA Tournament Champions. During the 2004-2005 season, the Bulldogs were crowned Regular Season PCHA Champions, and earned our first ever trip to the ACHA National Tournament. We finished 6th in the Nation out of 120 teams that competed. Two members from that team earned First and Second Team All Tournament honors.
