31-October-2006: Prior to this article (October 2006), a Google search could not find who discovered and explained how zygotes form by spermatozoa penetrating and fusing into the egg membrane. Try Internet search for: (discover OR discovered) sperm "penetrates egg" etc. (Google search link: Google-search-discover). I added extra phrases to the article for matching word-searches about that topic. However, the work of his brother Oskar Hertwig might be the original research about the zygotes.
