Richard Wright Nowels (born March 16, 1954 in Palo Alto, California)[1] is a record producer and Grammy Award/Ivor Novello Award winning songwriter who is known for his work with Madonna, Nelly Furtado, Dido, New Radicals Stevie Nicks, Belinda Carlisle, Darren Hayes, Sonique, Jewel, Ronan Keating, Robert Miles, Tupac Shakur, k.d. lang, Joss Stone, Melanie C, All Saints, Craig David, Santana, John Legend, and many others.
Since 1987 Rick has co-written or produced over 50 top ten singles in the U.S and Europe. His biggest hits include "White Flag" Dido, "The Game of Love" Santana feat. Michelle Branch, "You Get What You Give" New Radicals, "The Power of Goodbye" Madonna, "Standing Still" Jewel, "Here With Me" Dido, "Inner Smile" Texas, "Life is a Rollercoaster" Ronan Keating, "One and One" Robert Miles, "Sky" Sonique, "I Turn To You" Melanie C, "Body and Soul" Anita Baker, "Heaven is a Place on Earth" , "Circle in the Sand", "Leave a Light On", "Live Your Life Be Free", Belinda Carlisle, "Rooms On Fire" and "I Can't Wait" Stevie Nicks. Kylie Minogue recently recorded one of his unreleased Madonna songs but has so far chosen not to release it. Rick has written and/or produced hits for Dido of which he produced "Here with Me" and "Hunter" for her debut No Angel album and co-wrote 5 songs on her 2nd album including the Ivor Novello winning "White Flag". His most recent collaborations include Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens), Nelly Furtado “In God’s Hands” and “Somebody To Love” and All Saints “Chick Fit”.
Recently Rick has written new songs with John Legend, Nerina Pallot, Ed Tracy and Sandie Thom.
He plays guitar, keyboards and bass. He divides his time between London and Santa Monica, California.
