Richard S. Ward FRS is a professor of mathematics at Durham University. He is most famous for his extension of Roger Penrose's twistor theory to nonlinear cases (Roger Penrose was Richard Ward's supervisor at university). He has related interests in the theory of monopoles, topological solitons and skyrmions. Widely regarded as a superb lecturer of the highest standard, his amusing anecdotes in lectures have kept students interested for years.[citation needed]
