Richard Fontana is a free software and open source lawyer in the United States. Fontana is currently legal counsel of the Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC).

Fontana was one of the three principal authors of the GNU GPL, version 3, along with Richard Stallman and Eben Moglen. [1][2] Fontana's current work includes representing free software and open source clients such as the Free Software Foundation, assisting them on copyright and patent issues.
