"Rhythm of the Rain" is a song performed by The Cascades, released in November 1962. It was written by John Claude Gummoe (of The Cascades). It rose to #3 on the US pop charts in early 1963, and was also a Top 5 hit in the United Kingdom and a number 1 in Ireland.
The Cascades' recording was used in the soundtrack of the 1979 film Quadrophenia and included in its soundtrack album.
It has been covered by dozens of artists, including Johnny Rivers, Jan and Dean, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, Neil Sedaka, Bobby Darin, Sarah Brightman and Dan Fogelberg.
The most famous cover version is Australian former Neighbours star Jason Donovan. His version reached #9 on the UK charts, but was poorly received in his home country, Australia in 1990. The music video features Donovan and another actress (possibly Rachel Blakely (another Neighbours star)) making a film in Hong Hong. Donovan sings outside the rain in a backyard. It also features the actress posing as Audrey Hepburn kissing Donovan in a ship.
