Route 4 is a numbered state highway in the U.S. state of Rhode Island, known as Colonel Rodman Highway. It runs from U.S. Route 1 in North Kingstown to Interstate 95 in Warwick.
Route 4 is a freeway for most of its length, but there are three traffic signals on the road towards its southern terminus.
Because Route 4 is the primary route used to get between Providence and Rhode Island's beaches, Route 4 is known by many locals simply as "The Road to the Beach".[citation needed]

[edit] Trivia
A past road sign before exit 8 (heading north on Route 4), was subject to a humorous modification. Exit 8 (Division Street) is a two off-ramp exit (A and B). Someone added dots above and below the hyphen in the sign to give the exit a look of a division problem. The sign was replaced a few years ago.
