EARLY LIFE
Dr. Hayes was born in Zachary, Louisiana to the union of Bennie and Prophetess Elizabeth Hayes. Ulas was also the spear head of his family and often stressed the importance of prayer and unity among the family. All who came in contact with him loved him dearly because they knew that he was a strong man of God.
Dr. Hayes siblings were: Rebecca Hayes Anderson, Sallie Hayes Williams; Annie Belle Hayes Williams, Abraham, Leola Hayes Carter, Mary Hayes Anderson. Half sisters and brothers were: Bennie Hayes, Jr., Larry Hayes, Marion Hayes Hall and Gloristine Hayes.
Dr. Hayes was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Elizabeth Anderson and to that union of love, three beautiful children were born: Eddie Lee Hayes, Joyce Hayes Carey and Donald Ray Hayes.
EDUCATION
Dr. Hayes received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Secondary Education from Southern University A & M College; Master of Education Degree in Secondary Education and a Doctor of Divinity degree from Interdenominational Theological Center.
Dr. Hayes received Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Inter-Baptist Theological Center. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

MINISTRY
The late Reverend Dr. Ulas Hayes was the Senior Pastor of the Winding Chapel Baptist Church, Chaneyville, Louisiana. He was also the Co-Pastor of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Winding Chapel Baptist Church is currently under the leadership of Reverend Albert Anderson a relative of Dr. Hayes. Winding Chapel is a family based God fearing Church that impacts the community through teaching the word of God. Hayes also served as the Co-Pastor of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
In addition to serving as the senior pastor of Winding Chapel Baptist Church, Hayes also served as Senior Chaplain of the Earl K. Long Hospital, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Senior Chaplain of Alpha Phi Alpha; Chaplain of the Metropolitan Lions Club; Senior Senior Chaplain of LSU Medical Science, Inc. and Senior Chaplain of Institutes of All Nations.
CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVISM
Dr. Hayes was one of the most prestige, God fearing Civil Rights Leaders in the State of Louisiana. His fear of and devotion to God made him the outstanding leader that he become. Dr. Hayes was not only a man God but also a man of his word. Dependable, Devoted, Understanding, Caring and Loving, Dr. Hayes helped all who knew him.
Dr. Hayes was an active leader of the American civil rights movement. He was a political activist and Baptist minister and is regarded as one of America's greatest speakers. Dr. Hayes was most influential and well-known for preaching, teaching and leading by living by example according to the will of God.
Dr. Hayes was raised in a God fearing home and sat under the leadership of his grandfather, Rev. Jesse Hayes of Zachary, Louisiana, Rev. J.P. Handy of Zachary, Louisiana and upon until his death, Rev. H.B. Williams, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
