India beats England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. In the 2nd Test match of the Pataudi Trophy, India reached the easy target of 73 in 24.1 overs losing the wickets of Jaffer, Dinesh Karthik and Sachin Tendulkar.
In the first innings, England were limited to 198 with Aliastar Cook top-scoring with 43. Indian pace spearhead Zaheer Khan claimed 4 wickets. India made a strong reply with 481. Sachin Tendulkar missed his 38th century due to the wrong leg-before decision made by the umpire Simon Taufel. Tendulkar made 91. During his batting, Tendulkar became the third batsman in Test cricket to make eleven thousand runs.Later, Taufel felt sorry for that decision. Earlier,Wasim Jaffer and Dinesh Karthik put on 147 run stand for the opening wicket. Then, Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid put on 97 for the fourth wicket. Dravid made 37. Then Sachin had a long partnership with Saurav Ganguly. Ganguly made 79. Also V.V.S. Laxman made a half century. In the 2nd innings, England--trailing by 243 runs-- made 355. Michael Vaughan, the skipper, made 124. He had a big partnership for the second wicket with Andrew Strauss. Strauss made 55. Also Paul Collingwood made 63. Zaheer Khan once again shone with 5 wickets, with a total of 9 wickets in the match. India was set a target of 73. Both openers, made 22 each ,were dismissed by Chris Tremlett. Also, Tremlett claimed the wicket of Tendulkar, who made 1. Dravid and Ganguly took India home safely. Zaheer khan was truly the Man of the match as he took 9 of the 20 English wickets. He was helped very much by Anil Kumble and R.P. Singh. Also, he was complemented by wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. India now leads the 3-match series 1-0 with the last test at Oval. The first Test at Lord's ended in a draw.


Interestingly, the winning runs came with four byes. Another interesting fact was that Kevin Pietersen, who scored a century in the first match at Lord's, was dismissed by Rudra Pratap Singh third consecuetive time in the series. --Rev sugandh 12:34, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
