| Description |
This flag has been created in 1975 by Mr Guy Pignolet, an engineer, [1] who proposed it as an emblem for Réunion island. Winner in 2003 of a contest organised by the Reunionese Association of Vexillology, it has been selected by this association, and then by the French Association of Vexillology to be freely and publicly spread for becoming the reunionese flag. For this intention, it has to be considered being in Public Domain, but for use restricted to non commercial Réunion representation. It symbolises the strength and the volcano (red triangle), the sky, the ocean and the gentleness (blue background), the sun, the radiance of Réunion and the pluriethnic origins of Réunion's people (yellow rays). It has never been approved nor of course used by any official authority. It has been adopted by the independantist movement (“Mouvman Parnouminm” : By Ourselves Movement) which got 0,70% of votes at the 2004 regional elections. It has been sticked by many people on their cars : independantist sympathizers or just people proud of being from Réunion. |
