[edit] History
After the company was founded by F. Kurt Retsch in 1915 as a specialized trader for laboratory equipment, it developed from a mere dealer to a manufacturer of machines for analytical sample preparation. A giant part in this development has been contributed by the invention of the "Retsch Mill", which had been introduced in 1923 and which simplified sample preparation – reproducibility and accuracy of grinding results were no longer left to chance but could be guaranteed. Successively Retsch developed further laboratory devices and became a major provider for analytical sieve shakers (Sieve analysis) and devices for sample preparation of solids. Retsch products secure reliable results within the scope of analytical methods as e.g. X-ray fluorescence, Atomic absorption spectroscopy, Infrared spectroscopy, and many more.
The product range can be divided into three main sections: Milling, Sieving, Assisting.
Milling: Retsch offers laboratory mills and crushers which work with different size reduction principles depending on the properties of the material which has to be crushed. Thus, there are hardly any limits in terms of applications, feed size and final fineness. Products like the Knife Mill Grindomix, the Ultra-Centrifugal Mill ZM200 or the Planetary Ball Mill PM100 have been setting the standards in their product sector for years.
By founding the sister company Retsch Technology in 1998, Retsch took a step into optical particle measurement. In cooperation with Jenoptik L.O.S. the CAMSIZER - a dual-camera-system which enables particle size, shape and opacity measurement in a range of 30 µm to 30 mm – was invented. Additionally, Retsch Technology is exclusive distributor for Horiba Laser-Analysers in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Austria.
