I felt this was inappropriate for the main page, so I thought I would raise it here. Per here, your user name appears to have been coined by someone who holds some pretty controversial views on subjects like gay marriage, global warming and the "war on terror". Of course, that is his privilege, and it is also entirely yours to have such a name. However, if you become an admin it is entirely possible that you will be asked to intervene in disputes which involve or pertain to these areas. As admins have to be seen to be neutral, this user name would seem to militate against the appearance of neutrality. If it seems petty to oppose on this ground, I apologize, and it is of course fairly easy to change a user name. However, the fact that it seems not to have previously occurred to you that this user name might be seen as divisive, worries me somewhat. In conjunction with the recent snippy comment to K Weber, this is enough to make me doubt whether you have yet got the right temperament for the role. - John, I've never really paid any attention Card's personal/political/moral views, as I said, I'm just a fan of the Ender's Game series of novels. That being said, because no fewer than three people have raised concerns about my username, I am taking steps to address it.
- On the subject of the Guest9999's RFA comment: I admit it was an ill-advised, unhelpful comment. I've been planning to apologize to kurt (as personally I feel that everyone is entitled to their opinion), but wanted to wait until after the closure of this RFA for fear of it being seen as insincere (i.e. an apology merely to prevent further opposes). I'm sure that if you review my talk page and archives, you'll find that I am, by and large, a fairly easy-going, welcoming and civil kind of guy, but RFA debates, as you are no doubt aware, can often become quite heated. Do I regret making the comment? Absolutely. But not because it is garnering opposes on this RFA, but because it makes me look immature and petty, which is out of character for me. xenocidic ( talk ¿ listen ) 20:54, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
