Replacement banknote

A replacement banknote is a banknote that is printed to replace a faulty one. Sometimes, the replacement banknote has the same serial number as the original faulty one, but has an indication such as a star or a special prefix - usually 'Z/1' or 'ZZ'.

Countries that have replaced their paper banknotes with polymer banknotes no longer issue replacement notes.
