Relative location

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Relative locationis describing where one place is located based on the location of another place. An example is “My house is twenty miles from the ocean.”

Relative location can also be on a larger scale. A good example of this would be that Lake Maracaibo is in the northern part of South America.

Relative location is the polar opposite of absolute location, which is the exact spot on earth where something is. This is represented with coordinates, such as "45° N, 50° W."
