There is still matter of debate as regards who is the real Elise to whom L. Van Beethoven dedicated his most popular music piece for piano "For Elise". The "Für Elise" was written for Elise List (1822-1893), the second daughter of Friedrich List [[1]]. Elise was a real beautiful lady, paint by Joseph Karl Stieler for the King Ludwig I, appearing in the famous gallery of beauties ("Schönheitengalerie")[2] in the Nymphen castle, Germany and was an opera singer [1]. She met and was encouraged by Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann. Elise List was also the best friend of Clara Shumann, the famous pianist and daughter of Robert Schumann [2]. Although this information was transmitted orally to further generations in our family (last personal communication, Julie List-Baumann, Pfullingen, Germany), it is supposed that Elise List has been presented to Ludwig van Beeethoven by Felix Mendelssohn. Indeed, because much younger than and very impressed by his force, Mendelssohn met probably only three times the Master van Beethoven [3]. This probably explains why Elise List was not quoted in any correspondance of the two composers. Elise stopped singing, and when married was named Elise List Pacher von Theinburg. She also lost contacts with Clara Schumann.21:53, 29 March 2008 (UTC)21:53, 29 March 2008 (UTC)Reichhart 19:57, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
