Guyana is divided into 10 regions:

  1. Barima-Waini
  2. Pomeroon-Supenaam
  3. Essequibo Islands-West Demerara
  4. Demerara-Mahaica
  5. Mahaica-Berbice
  6. East Berbice-Corentyne
  7. Cuyuni-Mazaruni
  8. Potaro-Siparuni
  9. Upper Takatu-Upper Essequibo
  10. Upper Demerara-Mahaica

Each Region is administered by a Regional Democratic Council (RDC) which is headed by a Chairman. In addition there are a number of Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDC) within each Region. These operate at the local or village council level.

The regions are divided into 27 neighborhood councils.
