The regions (Greek: γεωγραφικά διαμερίσματα, lit. geographic departments) are the traditional (and until 1987 official) subnational divisions of Greece, still widely used in daily discourse. There are 10 regions[1] (seven on the mainland and three island groups), which are further subdivided into 54 prefectures.
