Hurricane Fausto was a late-season pacific hurricane that was part of the 1996 Pacific hurricane season Fausto was formed as a tropical disturbance near Venezuela on August 31, 1996 that was originally part of the wave that became Hurricane Fran.[1] The storm was rated a category 3 on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale (or SSHS), with maximum sustained winds of 120 miles per hour (195 kilometers per hour). Heavy rainfall was accompanied with the passage of this cyclone, with a storm total of 18.50 inches/470 mm reported at San Vicente de la Sierra.[2] Damage in Mexico was relatively minor, with only a single casualty caused by a downed power line.[1] Damage totaled to around $800,000 (1996 USD) in both areas.[3]
