[edit] History section needs more

Anyone want to write a graf or two on Redlands' 20th-century history? I'm really not very up on it--did it go into a period of decline after the 1950s, the way San Bernardino did, or has it always been fairly affluent? I know it's a pretty damn nice town these days (well, as nice as anywhere in the smog-ridden eastern IE could be).--Slightlyslack 21:10, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • I'm working with the Redlands historical association to bring this article and several of the non-existent linked articles up to speed. I'm going to (eventually, soon) divide the history section up by period so as to provide more in-depth information. Mrjmcneil (talk) 19:33, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Wow, Im glad the association is helping out in this matter. im heading towards Redlands next month from Los Angeles and will take pictures of certain areas for a commons folder. Anything i can do to help.--Redspork02 (talk) 22:00, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Redspork - yeah, Tom Atchley is very helpful. He's actually doing a class at Smiley Library on the history that I'll be sitting in on over the next couple of months which will hopefully get me a bunch more information. Also, I was able to pick up a bunch of the Moores' books when I was out there on Tuesday that will good references for this project. I'm thinking of dividing it up as: "Early History", "Early Settlers" "1800s" and "1900s" "Today" for starters and then just going from there if we need more subsections. What do you think?Mrjmcneil (talk) 21:16, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
I've got Moore's "Redlands Astride the Freeway" and Swett's "Tractions of the Inland Empire". I desperately wanted a copy of Moore's Norton AFB history but it was already out of print when I learned of it. The Smiley library has copies of that: [1] I relied on resources at Smiley, including their wireless internet, pretty extensively to write History of the University of Redlands last year. (I'm not currently in Redlands, however.) Ameriquedialectics 14:41, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Images

Thanks to user:Redspork02 for adding the images. However, unless we find out their copyright status they'll be removed soon. Can we find out what the copyright is? Thanks, -Willmcw 21:25, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] I

I am, currently, several miles East, or Southeast, of here.

I've just heard of a fire nearby, as well as a community, district, named "Mountain Home".

Where is "Mountain Home", please?

Hopiakuta 14:18, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Mountain Home Village, Ca I believe is a small community of about 5 to 10 homes on Highway 38 going up towards Big Bear Lake, California. Also known locally as Mill Creek. Heres a map I found.

[edit] POV?

This article (particularly the history section) sounds like a tourist advert. Please re-phrase the section to present the facts in a more NPOV fashion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.226.19.205 (talk • contribs) 09:00, 28 September 2006

[edit] Demographics

I can't find a source anywhere for the recent updates to the Demographics section [3], namely, for the part about income. The most current offical Census data for Redlands available at census.gov is dated 2003, the income data is dated 1999 [4]. The update indicating that the median income quadrupled since 1999 looks like a WP:REDFLAG to me. Is anybody else worried about this? --BeautifulFlying (talk) 01:27, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

ESRI has grown a lot in the last 10 years and has brought a LOT of high-tech jobs and incomes to the area, so I'm not to worried, however if we can find the right income data, that'd be good...Mrjmcneil (talk) 01:20, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
I still don't think ESRI expansion boosts median income figures for the entire city to $180,155/household, $156,254/family, $142,408/males, and $132,122/females. --BeautifulFlying (talk) 22:47, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
According to John Husing, median income in Redlands in 2006 was $63,463: [5]. Ameriquedialectics 23:26, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
This figure looks much more defensible - thanks for the interesting link Amerique! Unfortunately, the document only provides a "median inclome" figure which I can't correlate with the household/family/male/female breakdown of median incomes used by Census... --BeautifulFlying (talk) 20:04, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
Found 2006 Redlands stats from US Census site here. Ameriquedialectics 03:36, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Churches under points of interest

I recently added information regarding the Redlands California Temple under Museums and other points of interest (I added "other points of interest" per WP:USCITY). However, it was reverted. While it is not a museum, it is a significant point of interest and one of only four temples in Southern California. It also is notable enough to have a Wikipedia article about it. I think it is appropriate to discuss on the talk page the merits of readding this information, if not in this section of the article then another. Alanraywiki (talk) 16:43, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Feel free to add a "Churches" or "Points of interest" or "Notable architecture" or some other separate section where the temple entry can live. You also might want to head over and flesh out the entry for the Redlands temple on this page. The only thing I objected to was the thinning out of the "Museums" section by appending "points of interest" to it. Binksternet (talk) 17:57, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
I had a bunch of Redlands buildings images from an April 2005 visit lost in a hard drive crash... wish I could add them to the page.  :( Binksternet (talk) 17:59, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
I reformated the site in early January to be consistant with other CAlifornia cities. If anyone knows, or remembers the names of the religious house in the city, please feel free to add. It will help.--Redspork02 (talk) 21:57, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
I've added about two dozen of the churches so far, but it will take a while to get them all up and alphabatized. Redlands has one of the highest Per-capata number of churches in the United States (I'm checking on a reference for that so I can put it in the article). There were so many that I've moved them to their own section and I'm trying to arrange them as well as I can by denominational affiliation. I'm a little unsure about the 'reformed church' whether I should split them up or keep them all together, so if anyone knows, feel free to change it. Also, I only went by the denominations that were listed on websites, if there are any I've placed in 'non-affiliated' that are, please fix this as well. Any help would make it better.Mrjmcneil (talk) 01:16, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
Holy cow! (pun intended)... When did the church section take over? It's now out of proportion to the rest of the article. I don't feel the denomination headers are good for the format; each of the churches can simply have their denomination listed inline. That would snug up the list and reduce visual clutter. [edit] Linking to non-existent Wikipedia pages

Does anyone know why there are so many links to non-existent Wikipedia articles? Most of the links on this page are in red. Unless this is on purpose, I'll go ahead and link them to external articles. Mrjmcneil (talk) 19:36, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Some consider red links to be simply future pages. Others can't stand seeing them. Binksternet (talk) 19:49, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Seems to me like it would be more helpful to have links that work, but that is a personal preference. I'll do a compromise and footnote a reference link to the external article.Mrjmcneil (talk) 20:27, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

I agree but some of the links will eventually be made and updated. I did deleted the elementary schools being that theres a stub for the RUSD already, we dont need that info in this section.--Redspork02 (talk) 21:53, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

The RUSD oversees ALL the schools in Redlands. Should we just move all the school information to this stub?Mrjmcneil (talk) 01:18, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

I was the one who removed all the elementary schools from this site for the same reason, but i thought the middle schools and High schools were OK to leave here. So IMO i think its fn=ine as is.--Redspork02 (talk) 04:00, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Kimberly Crest Stub Creation

Also, I'm creating a Kimberly Crest Stub since I happen to have a lot of references on it. I'll welcome anyone's addition to tray and build it up to being a full-fledged article.Mrjmcneil (talk) 19:36, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Excellent. I'll enjoy seeing what you come up with. Binksternet (talk) 19:50, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

I just put it up as a stub and I'll continue adding to it over the next week (I'm picking up my print references from Redlands today) to try and get it up to a full-article status. Check it out at Kimberly Crest (Redlands, CA), let me know what you think.Mrjmcneil (talk) 20:29, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion: Kimberly Crest is the simplest name possible for your article and isn't being used for any other purpose. I say move your info to that page and make the page you've got now into a redirect. Binksternet (talk) 22:16, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
I couldn't help it; I went ahead and moved your work to Kimberly Crest. The name of the article is just so much more concise that way. Binksternet (talk) 00:24, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Great Stub, Thanks for your contributions to the article.--Redspork02 (talk) 21:51, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Birksternet, I was out of commission yesterday and so I'm just checking up now. Good idea with the redirect.Mrjmcneil (talk) 21:13, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
