RCPI is an initialism for Received Channel Power Indicator. RCPI is an 802.11 measure of the received RF power in a selected channel over the preamble and the entire received frame.
RCPI is a term exclusively associated with 802.11 and as such has some accuracy and resolution enforced on it through 802.11k. Similar term[clarify] is RSSI, Radio Signal Strength Indicator, which is the very same concept of classifying the received signal.
Indeed, the power level assessment is a necessary means to establish networking for communication between wireless nodes. However, power level never serves the quality[clarify] as obtained with travel time measurement (ToA).
