[edit] Debate of Name
Hater:Real Salt Lake has the most idiotic name in all of sports history.
Liker:NO IT DOESN'T!
Hater:No? tell me a dumber team name. Real Salt Lake bears a name that makes the city a laughingstock.
Liker: Do you live in Salt Lake City, Utah? A true fan of Real Salt Lake likes them for who they are not their name. So you want a name with a dumber name I will give you a few! The Rochester Raging Rhinos, I belive that name is pathetic! What do you say now?
Liker: Not talking huh?
"Confused"....Ok, so what does the name mean? "REAL"? Other than emulating the European teams bearing the name what the heck does it mean? I am personally with the Hater here...very stupid and un-original name.
Real means "Royal"... Salt Lake City has nothing to do with royalties. They are just trying to mimick the names of teams like "Real Madrid". What a poser.
the guy who started the team also owns Real Madrid Spartacus007 19:22, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
I don't think there is any connection between Real Madrid and Real Salt Lake. Besides, the title "Real" is given by the King of Spain.
The owner of salt lake does not have any connection to Real Madrid.Rousseau 16:31, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Yes, it's a dumb name. I suggest changing it to Really Salty Lakers. --Mooky 20:01, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- The two clubs have some sort of connection, proven by the upcoming friendly between Real Madrid and Real Salt Lake at Rice-Eccles in August. Also, from my experience in living here, most people don't mind the name too much. Cirus206 05:35, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
(anon) I've added a list of other clubs around the world with no connection to Spanish royalty under the Trivia section. HOPEFULLY this FINALLY SETTLES this nonsense about the name.
[edit] Huh?
In the second paragraph, regarding the name of the franchise, it says:
- Fan support for the name, however, has not been positive, as rumors that the name would be Real Salt Lake were largely met with derision and pessimism.
However, later in the same paragraph it says:
- Although it is yet to be seen how both the American and European media respond to this highly unconventional name, there has been little derision or disapproval so far.
So...which is it? bob rulz 05:01, September 6, 2005 (UTC)
- I don't know, but it is a stupid name. The team website implies that they wanted to appeal to the hispanic community in Salt Lake, though they don't explicitly say so. Sandy supposedly unveiled their plans for the stadium yesterday, but other than the fact that they unveiled their plans, I can't find any info about what those plans actually are. Truth is we wish we could change it (the fans in Salt lake) but we're stuck with it. Also, the reason Chivas USA is a big rival? cause all the friggin illegals here support it!!! go to any real/chivas game and you can tell who's on what side. Chivas fans are brown, real fans are white. it's that simple.
- All I can say is that the name is strange and out-of-the-ordinary, but it's OK to me. Now I'll go somewhere else and spout off pro-Rapids stuff.
[edit] Pronunciation?
Is the word "Real" in the name pronounced like the Spanish "Real" from which it is derived, or pronounced like the english world "Real" (meaning actual)? Pimlottc 05:39, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
It is pronounced like the Spanish "Real" CXHazuki 06:18, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Famous Supporters?
Are there any?
I noticed that Chivas, Chicago Fire, DC United, LA Galaxy, Red Bull NY, and even Columbus have famous supporters listed. Does Real Salt Lake have any? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Qwestarsenal (talk • contribs) 03:23, 4 February 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Huntsman Jr. as Savior
Governor Huntsman jumped in to "save" the team? I don't think this is how it happened at all. There were a number of offers, just none that Checketts was persuaded to like. I think Huntsman lobbied harder than private enterprise, and with Mayor Rocky Anderson, put together a "plan" that would ensure they could maintain control over the stadium - keeping it in Salt Lake County. I think the language here is a little too glowing of Huntsman Jr.'s involvement as team savior and should perhaps be modified. Thoughts? Nhansen 03:18, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Name matter
Can we get some of the fancy é 's up in here? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 208.186.134.103 (talk) 05:33, 22 February 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Captain
What player is the captain of Real Salt Lake?
Currently Eddie Pope, but that will change as he's retiring after this season. Skrymsli 00:44, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Record
Maybe some mention of the fact that it makes the news when RSL scores a goal, let alone wins a game, because RSL actually scoring is such an unusual occurrence. I don't see anything on RSL's win/loss record, etc. here.
[edit] Tejada Status?
Tejada is listed as "in" for the 2007 season, but he has been released according to this. How do you handle it when someone is acquired and released in the same season? In and out?
[edit] Jafet Soto is Noteable?
What about Jafet Soto would make him a noteable player for Real Salt Lake? Prk166 02:33, 24 July 2007 (UTC)prk166
[edit] Real Salt Lake or Real Salt Lake City?
Which one? I ask because the city is officially called Salt Lake City, Utah. Cheers from Malpass93 (talk) 00:39, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
- Uhh, it's Real Salt Lake MerkWiki (talk) 15:47, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
