Read-write memory is a type of computer memory that may be relatively easily written to as well as read from. Compare read-only memory (ROM). The term RAM is often used to describe writable memory, but strictly speaking this is incorrect—RAM properly means memory that can be accessed at any location. The confusion arises because in practice writable memory is almost always random access and vice versa.
