Okay, you said, "revert - In Britain 'Series' means what 'Season' means in the US. Since this is a British show, 'Series' is the proper terminology."
If that's so "true," R. Bernard, then how can it make sense, since a WHOLE show, from its birth until its grand finale, is a series, and if they're also calling one yearly period of the show the same thing? How can they use the same term for both and not confuse the matter?

Beats the hell out of me how they keep them straight, but they do in fact call one year's worth of shows a "series".
