Rayo Salahadin Withanage is the founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the multibillion dollar The BMB Group Ltd ("BMB") [1] and its subsidiaries. BMB is reputed to be one of the largest and most elite Islamic asset management and financial services firms in the world, with clients that extend to many of the most prominent ruling families and ultra high net-worth individuals in the Islamic world. Within five years from its founding in 2003, BMB has grown to be one of the largest private conglomerates from Brunei Darussalam with diversified interests in private equity, alternative asset management, oil and gas and Islamic financial services.
Business Interests
Rayo Salahadin Withanage founded the BMB with YAM Prince Abdul Ali 'Yil-Kabier, a senior Brunei prince from the house of Bolkiah, the oldest surviving royal line in the Islamic world. Forming allegiances with the leading financial figures and ruling family members in the Middle East, the group has seen a meteoric rise in five years to one of the most robust Islamic alternative asset management platforms with a number of successful independent subsidiaries: BMB Islamic[2], BMB Resources[3], BMB Captial Management[4] and BMB Emerging Markets[5]. Mr Withanage has been labeled as a the shrewd businessman and maverick merchant banker with one of the most extensive rolodexes in the Islamic financial world.
In 2008,BMB was reported to be deploying funds in excess of USD 15 billion. Much of its success can be attributed to Mr Withanage's leadership and to an extremely accomplished management team. Rayo Salahadin Withanage calls upon industry veterans Floris Ansingh[6],Dr Humayon Dar[7] and Steven Gluckstern that head various BMB businesses.
Non-Profit Activities
Rayo Salahadin Withanage is a founding member of the BRIC Council[8]- a non-partisan advisory group which seeks to align the interest of the BRIC nations - and the Royal Islamic Council[9]- a forum established to align the political, religious and economic interests of the ruling families of the Islamic world.
Professional Education Trained as an attorney, Mr Withanage developed a successful career in finance with positions at a number of private equity firms. He received a degree cum laude in law and a BA in International Relations from the University of Auckland.
