[edit] Height ranking in Africa

I do not think Ras Dejen should be regarded as the fourth or fifth highest in Africa. Apart from the highest points of Kilimanjaro, Kenya, Stanley and Meru, Mawenzi (Kilimanjaro) and several other peaks in the Ruwenzori (Stanley) range have at least 500m of topographic prominence and are therefore arguably mountains in their own right. [edit] First ascent

The claim that Ras Dejen was first ascended in 1841 assumes that it had not been previously climbed by locals. I cannot provide a verifiable citation, but such an assumption seems rather unlikely. Unless there is any objection, I propose to add a neutral note on tis matter. Viewfinder 11:15, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Height

I am changing the height to that given in 2005 by the Ethiopian mapping authority, which is supported to within 1m by a Franco-Italian survey, and is not incomptible with SRTM data. Viewfinder (talk) 11:08, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
