Talk:Rape Choke

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Just because a commentator makes up a term to describe a move during a fight doesn't make it a real Mixed Martial Arts term. It's not part of the standard jargon of the sport. Also, a term that was coined today and used in exactly one fight isn't noteworthy enough to be included in Wikipedia. I propose that this article be deleted. -- Tim314 (talk) 03:17, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

There are already numerous Google results for this term in specific reference to MMA. 76.175.232.5 (talk) 03:23, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Many of those seem to be posts on Mixed Martial Arts forums referencing this single incident. I don't think the fact that a bunch of guys are talking about this on message boards immediately after the fight makes it a "Mixed Martial Arts term" or noteworthy enough for inclusion on wikipedia.
If someone has cites showing that the term is in widespread use outside the context of "Hey, did Joe Rogan really just say 'rape choke'?", and if the article were edited to reflect that history (including citing those sources), then I would withdraw my criticism of its notability. --Tim314 (talk) 03:38, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Also, 263 hits on Google is not a large number. Try to find any notable topic with that few hits. -- Tim314 (talk) 03:43, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

A Wikipedia article, "Mount (grappling)", uses the term ("A front choke... sometimes loosely and inaccurately called a rape choke"). This addition is seen as far back as 8 February 2007. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.227.120.3 (talk) 04:07, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
