On first examination, J. Winburn's comix may appear to be just a nihilistic tendency toward creating subversive little cartoons that abandon all hope in our present state of government affairs. This assumption is correct, but let's explore why.

Rancid Squid comix and doodles were born out of artist J. Winburn's unexpected deployment to the Middle East while attending San Francisco State University in the Fall 2003 semester. Disgusted with the conditions of the Army Camp at the Kuwaiti naval port and the incompetent leadership of his naval reserve unit, he decided to take latrine-inspired doodling to the World Wide Web. He secretly published and documented his experiences in cartoons and doodles, including many snickering and scathing parodies of the megalomaniacal war-mongering zealots for which he worked.

His initial web site featured strange and absurd journal-doodles that exploited life on deployment for a group of sailors stranded in a desert wasteland. He published his online journal from the hands-on morbid perspective of a squid deployed to the Middle East. Squid, as interpreted in a derogatory reference to a sailor in the Navy, refers to the unintelligible characteristics of a lower form of marine life.

Since returning to the states, J. Winburn has revisited his art studies at SFSU and continues to champion the deviant and anarchistic exploits of today's outsider cartoonist. [1]
