Rameses Revenge

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rameses Revenge is a Top Spin ride at Chessington World of Adventures theme park in Surrey, England, introduced in 1995. It was the main focus of advertising for the park in that year, and was also widely featured in the British media, even being featured in its own segment by the ITV Evening News.

The ride was manufactured by Huss Rides, a German company who had previously made Chessington's Black Buccaneer ride. Considered one of the more intense rides at the park (and indeed in England) it is a 'Top Spin' in which riders sit in a 20 seat wide, two tier gondola rotated by a pair of enormous arms and allowed to freely pivot. Riders are also suspended above jets of water at one point; those sitting in the middle of the front and back rows may get rather wet.

Rameses Revenge is situated in the 'Forbidden Kingdom' section of the park, which was more or less built for and around the ride. As suits a ride named for Ancient Egyptian pharoahs the ride is surrounded by buildings that have facades resembling traditional Islamic architecture, alongside themed elements such as a mock obelisk and rope bridges that evoke Ancient Egypt. The nearby dark ride 'Tomb Blaster' is themed in a similar way.

Rameses Revenge has recently been refurbished for the 2007 season and new settings have been placed onto the ride PLC to improve ride-ability.
