Ramón Jaime Martínez (b. March 22, 1968 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a former pitcher in Major League Baseball. He spent the majority of his 14-year career with the Los Angeles Dodgers (1988-1998), but also pitched for the Boston Red Sox (1999-2000) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (2001). His brother Pedro Martínez is a current Major League pitcher.
Ramón Martinez threw a no-hitter against the Florida Marlins on July 14, 1995. He struck out 18 batters in a game on June 4, 1990. For his career, he finished with a 135-88 record and a 3.67 earned run average in 1995 2/3 innings.
While he was starting for the Dodgers, Ramón Martinez repeatedly asserted that his brother Pedro was an even better pitcher. Nevertheless, Dodgers management thought Pedro was too small to be successful and traded him away. Ramón and Pedro were eventually reunited as teammates during Ramón's two years with the Red Sox.
