I hope that this is a worthy article that others can contribute to. GBC 01:04, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] How encyclopedic is this article?
On a personal level, I like this article. I've heard some of these since I was a kid (had relatives who worked for the railroad) and find some of the new ones humorous. But is this trivia or encyclopedic content? Just asking, not trying to start a war.Davemeistermoab 04:31, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- Considering that one of the references that I found today dates back to 1890 (a New York Times article quoting Chauncey Depew), and the fact that in many cases, the nicknames became the official names for the railroads (i.e. Monon Railroad, Frisco Railroad, Big Four Railroad), I would say that this information is encyclopedic. Any further assistance in referencing the information would be greatly appreciated. Slambo (Speak) 18:33, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Referencing
I've gone through and found references for a little more than half of the nicknames listed. In about a week's time, I intend to move the unreferenced nicknames to a holding area much the same way as is now done on the Glossary of North American railroad terminology and associated pages. As references are found for nicknames, they can then be re-added to the article. So, if anyone else has references for those that are as yet unreferenced, add them now, please.
