Former capital under the Taharid Dynasty. Hometown of notable figures in Yemeni history, such as Abraham Sahoubah, great grandson of Alrashed Sahoubah, founder of wealthy jewish/gypsy psuedo-tribes which flourished in the arts crafts and cosmetics under Taharid Rule.
