Race Against Cancer

The Race Against Cancer is an annual International charity motorsport event held in Europe. Held for the first time in November 2007 in Hertfordshire, England, the concept behind the event is to bring a collection of racing drivers together to race in a one-off kart race racing money for Cancer Research UK. A date for the 2008 event is yet to be confirmed.

The inaugural event was held at Rye House, situated in Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. It featured a variety of motorsport stars including 2008 GP2 Asia champion Romain Grosjean and WTCC race winner Alain Menu. The karts used were 100cc 2-stroke outdoor racing karts, capable of speeds of over 70mph.

James Jakes, Mika Kallio, Russell Parkes, Tom Onslow-Cole and Ben Hanley all suffered accidents forcing them out of the race.

A date hasn't been confirmed for the 2008 event, but rumours are suggesting late November along with a potential European street circuit as a venue, again using 2-stroke racing karts. No official details have yet to be released.

The race received much acclaimed media press coverage, and was featured in Motorsport Weekly, Top Gear Magazine, Autosport, EVO and Pistonheads. The race was also televised and is due to be aired on European TV in May 2008.
