R. Paul Robertson

R. Paul Robertson, M.D. is an American endocrinologist and President and Scientific Director of the Pacific Northwest Research Institute (PNRI). He is active in research of metabolic studies of diabetes. Dr. Robertson is currently the President-Elect, Medicine & Science of the Volunteer Board for the American Diabetes Association. His research interests focus on glucose regulation of pancreatic islet gene expression and the abnormal consequences on gene expression caused by glucose toxicity. He is also very actively involved in metabolic studies of type 1 diabetic patients who have successfully received pancreas and pancreatic islet transplantation. See the Edmonton Protocol for more information about this procedure. PNRI is leading a consortium of Northwest research and healthcare organizations conducting human islet transplants.
