R. N. Jayagopal is one of the most widely respected connoisseurs of the Kannada film industry. Having written well over 12000 film songs, he is a Indian Film Legend, in the company of great writers like Chi. Udhayashankar.
He passed away on 19th May, 2008 at the age of 72 following a cardiac arrest. He is survived by his wife Lalita Jayagopal, son Ravi (Prashanth) Jayagopal (an E-Business Architect in NY, USA), daughter-in-law Veena Prashanth, and grandchildren Rhea and Rohan.
He started the first school in Chennai to offer Kannada as a 2nd language - Vidya Vinaya Vinoda Mat. Hr. Sec. School.
He also made his mark in the Tamil film industry with his well acclaimed roles in movies like Nayagan and Michael Madana Kamarajan.
