The Science Dean's Scholars are a group of students studying at the Queensland University of Technology, located in Brisbane, Australia. The primary aim of this program is to allow students to complete an honours degree (of normal length 4 years) in an accelerated 3 year program. This is partially accomplished through an intensive preparatory course conducted over 6 weeks prior to the start of the first semester.
Selected for their excellent marks in their final year of high school, candidates are reviewed by way of application for and interview. They may study in such areas as: Applied Science (Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Mathematics), but also discplines such as IT and Engineering.
Those who apply for this course often also apply for the Vice Chancellor's Scholarship, which provides a monetary embursement of $5000 per year, instead of the Dean's Scholars bursary.
Notable Dean's Scholars include:
- Cameron Hall (Maths lecturer and current PHD student at QUT, notable for his dislike of footwear)
- Joe Kelly (Editor of the Fourier Mail)
- Andrew Maurice (current President of the QUT Maths Society).
