Nyttend,

I appreciate your interest in Quechee and I assume it's one of the places you've visited and thus your interest in our Wiki entry. However, you don't live here or work here and so you don't understand the difficulty our community has in explaining how it fits into the world. A solid Wiki entry with lots of useful external links has provided considerable benefits during the past two years. It was just last week that I got a call asking me why the Wiki page had been eviscerated (the directions is what they were after) and I checked it and found you'd clobbered it in October (presumably when you witnessed our 4 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 best foliage season).

For example, people have a lot of trouble finding their way to locations in Quechee because most mapping programs return postal delivery locations, and there are none for Quechee, it's just a post office where we all go to get our mail. If I want someone to find my house, I have them "fake" the town and zip code to be White River Jct 05001 and then it works. But it gets worse. White River Jct is also an unincorporated place -- the only official use of the name is by the USPS -- but both are in the town of Hartford. But wait, it gets worse. Hartford is also an unincorporated place in the town of Hartford and it too has a small po-box only postoffice.

So for you to edit out the tip about using 05001, or to eliminate the link to a more thorough-going FAQ about Quechee that is on my blog, strikes me as a mistake. That is perfectly legitimate factual information.

Now, yes, I have read the Wiki guidelines again, and while I can see why we might not want to provide a link to, say, the main competitive golf group in town, or to the principle online discussion group of the community, I fail to understand why we would eliminate the links to the library, or to the local newspapers, or most any of the rest of the items.

I get that you have accumulated a lot of authority within the Wiki world, but I think you've gone overboard in this situation. I want to see the entries largely restored, and if we aren't able to work it out ourselves I will pursue the RFC and mediation options.
