The Queen Indiaman was an East Indiaman which was burned out 9th July 1800 in San Salvador, while en route from Torquay to Madras.
According to the Sussex Weekly Advertiser of 20th October 1800, five ladies on board lost all their clothes except what they wore.
An appreciation of prevailing winds and currents is (allegedly) necessary to understand why the Caribbean was en route from Torquay to Madras. The threat of Napoléon's combined fleet, at least until 21st October 1805, was no doubt another major consideration for route planners.
