Made minor edit in description to drop Medicaid from what QIOs work on. While state Medicaid agencies often contract with some of the same organizations to help oversee quality in Medicaid, the QIO program is solely a Medicare program with a very different scope of work.

QIO are required to do traditional beneficiary complaint peer review and payment fraud detection.
