The Government of Punjab, is the supreme governing authority of the Indian state of Punjab (India) and its 20 districts. It consists of an excecutive, led by the Governor of Punjab, a judiciary and a legislative.
The Chief Minister is the head of government and is vested with most of the executive powers. The Punajb High Court is located, which has jurisdiction over the whole of Punjab. The present Legislative Assembly of Punjab is unicameral, consisting of 5 years term 117 M.L.A..
The name Punjab means The Land of Five Rivers, in Persian ('Panj' = five, and 'Aab' = water), referring to the Beas, Ravi, Sutlej, Chenab and Jhelum rivers.
