Puncha (Bengali: পুঞ্চা) is a town and community development bloc in Purulia district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

In 1833, Manbhum district was carved out of Jungle Mahals district, with head quarters at Manbazar. In 1838, the headquarters was transferred to Purulia. In 1956, Manbhum district was partitioned between Bihar and West Bengal under the States Reorganization Act and the Bihar and West Bengal (Transfer of Territories) Act 1956. [1]

The area forms the lowest step of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. The general scenario is undulating land with scattered hills.[2]

In the 2001 census, Puncha community development bloc had a total population of 108,045 of which 54,636 were males and 53,409 were females. Decadal growth for the period 1991-2001 was 12.09% for Puncha, against 13.96% in Purulia district. Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84%.[3]

Puncha is an intermediate panchayat in Purulia district, with Bagda, Chandra, Chirudihi, Jambad, Kenda, Lakhra, Napara, Panipathar, Pirrah and Puncha village panchayats under it.[4]

Ramananda Centenary College at Lalulara, near Puncha, is one major colleges in West Bengal.[5]

Higher Secondary schools in the area are - Napara High School, Laulara R.C.Academy, and Kuruktopa High School.[6]
