Pulaski News

The Pulaski News is a student-run newspaper in Pulaski, Wisconsin. It has a circulation of approximately 3,000. It is the only student produced community newspaper in the nation.[citation needed] It reaches not only people who live in Pulaski, Wisconsin, but also those who reside in other communities. The Pulaski News is a non-profit business. All staff members are high school students. The newspaper is published bi-weekly.

[edit] Brief history
During the Great Depression in the 1930's, the town's only newspaper went out of business. Important public notices were tacked on a bulletin board in a drugstore. Some people bought newspapers from nearby towns, but these papers published little about Pulaski.
Then, in 1942, students at Pulaski High School turned the school newspaper, Pulaski High News, into the Pulaski News. Students began reporting news from the community.

The Pulaski News started out as a four-page, tabloid-size paper, published fortnightly. Then, it had eight pages, and had become a weekly publication. It began with only a handful of subscribers. In 1958, 2,000 people subscribed. Today, almost 50 years later, the newspaper has an average of 32 pages per issue, and a circulation of over 3,000.

The Pulaski News has received 31 awards and recognitions since its establishment. These include:
–The State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction recognized the Pulaski News for its commitment and dedication to the Year of Family in Education Program. Pulaski High School is the only high school in the State of Wisconsin that has ever been so recognized by the State.
–The Wisconsin Press Women’s Association honored the Pulaski News for excellence in news articles and feature articles.
–The Wisconsin Associated Press and Marquette University honored the Pulaski News for its feature writing.
–The Pulaski News was honored for news coverage by the Northeastern Wisconsin Scholastic Press Association.
