[edit] Puffer

Puffer is a heavy metal band based out of Oregon that was formed by John Hughes in 2005. While Hughes isn't the only official band member, he is the only member that continues with the Puffer name and sound. The current line-up for Puffer is John Hughes (vocals and guitar), Adam V. (bass), Mikey D. (drums and vocals).

[edit] History

The band started in 2003 as Harus Pex by John Hughes (lead vocals and guitar) with Adam V. (bass), Rich (rhythm guitar), and Chad Rogers (drums). They played in Portland and Bend.[1]

In 2005, the band changed their name to Puffer and replaced guitarist Rich with Doug Rollins. At WOUstock, and annual event at Western Oregon University, Puffer debuted their first CD At Any Co$t[2]. They played extensively through out the Willamette Valley.[3]

Adam V. left the band in early 2006 and Heath Nunes took over as bass player. John Hughes released a small recording, mostly to friends and distributed at some concerts, under the name Barney Kook called The Pink Album.

Jordan Pearce replaced Chad Rogers and Adam V. returned to the band in late 2006 to perform multiple times in the Portland area before the close of the year. The drummer position was taken over by Josh for a short time and now has incorporated drummer Mikey D. from the Portland based Black Sabbath tribute band, Crazy Train.

[edit] At Any Co$t

At Any Co$t was released in 2005. It was produced by Dan Hughes at Pufferland Studios and mastered by Stephen Hawkes at Fire Hazard Recording. Noah Henderson of Crave Magazine reviewed the album:

This album is a great mix of a new modern rock / metal with a twist of new style. I think i have this CD in my car right now. They have a rip’n sound that will please the metal head in all of us. What I found cool about this album is that it had tough guitar sounds with great change ups. The thunder of the Bass Guitar and Guitar from Doug, John and Adam = smack down!. Johns vocals are really pleasing because of the vast lyrical and vocal changes. I have to plug the drummer Chad for keeping the hook rollin. You can really get the best of all worlds in song 2 ( Gift of Pain ),3 ( Wanna Fight ) and 9 (One Big Lie ). But you really can listen to the whole album and enjoy all of it. What can I say, except for this band has a great future in the local scene and maybe more. When you listen to PUFFER it’s not hard to imagine them playing the small stage at Ozzfest or opening for Mudvayne, System Of A Down or any other big name band right now.[4]
