Puerto Rican Long-nosed Bat

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Puerto Rican Long-Nosed Bat (Monophyllus frater)

This species of bat was never observed by European explorers though the species was thought to have died in the colonial era. This is due to indigenous artifacts indicating survival up to that time. A fossil specimen is currently on display in London.

[edit] Extinction

The Puerto Rican Long-Nosed Bat was possibly wiped out by hurricanes in the region which caused an immense loss of their habitat.
