Talk:Publish on Demand

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page was edited to clarify the term, which is used to describe print-on-demand publishers in periodicals such as Writer's Digest. This term is also used by me, who started in 1997 what is believed to be the first print-on-demand publishing company in the nation.

The previous page equated Publish on Demand with the vanity press, the latter which does not publish books, but only prints them. The word “publish” by definition is to “make public” or “disseminate,” which implies marketing and distribution. In the trade, vanity book printers are not considered publishers and to have defined the term in such a context was misinformation.
