[edit] Descent

i was told that the ptolemy's may have been of greek decent...do you know if this is a legit theory?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.190.152.35 (talkcontribs) 17:00, 16 March 2006

The first few were comparatively decent, but Ptolemy IV marked the beginning of a pronounced slide into indecency.
OK, snarkiness aside, they were actually of Macedonian ancestry. The founder of the dynasty, Ptolemy I Soter, was one of the generals of Alexander the Great. JamesMLane t c 22:37, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure I'd call another 200 years a decline... Tbarker 10:07, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
